If I were to tell you that coordinating the outfits for your next round of family photos does NOT have to be stressful… would you want to throat punch me?

I know, I know. There are a million and a half things going on in your world and you really don’t have the time or energy to invest in stressing over family picture OUTFITS. Friend, this post is for you. I’m breaking it down today: how to easily coordinate your outfits for family photos without overthinking it. Keep reading!!

  • Don’t try to match. Instead, pick colors that coordinate.
  • Mom, start with your outfit first. Pick out what YOU want to wear, then work everyone else’s wardrobe around your outfit.
  • Embrace neutrals. They are your best friend. Neutrals never go out of style and they are easier to coordinate. Tip: neutral does not just mean black and white. Don’t forget that shades of cream, beige, and denim can add a LOT!
  • If you want to throw in some color, pick 2-3 colors that work well together and mix with neutrals!
  • Try experimenting with different shades of colors, or adding different prints or fabrics to the mix.
  • Layers and accessories add SO much depth to photos. Blazers, vests, jewelry, hair accessories, etc… it really adds some great dimension!

As you’re assembling your outfits, lay everything out and take a look. If there are pieces whose colors are too distracting or don’t seem to fit seamlessly with the other pieces, take it out. If you notice too many patterns, replace something with a solid. If it feels boring, add another color. If it feels too loud, add a neutral. Keep laying everything out and experimenting with what feels right for your family.
