3 reasons to have your session at home

C'mon in! Browse the pretty pictures and take a little look at my world. I'm often busy chasing feral children (you get it), but the rest of the time I'll be here. Welcome!

Trees, mountains, blue skies, sunshine… I love it all. Outdoor sessions are fun and beautiful, but what if you want something a little different from years past?

I’ve got 3 solid reasons for you to consider having a session at YOUR HOME.

1. Your kids are comfortable at home.

This is especially helpful for children who are a little shy or unsure around new people. Being in their own familiar space might allow them to warm up more quickly, which will be helpful in giving you the playful, candid photos you’re craving. Kick off the shoes, cuddle up and enjoy some family time at home — and get some great photos out of it!

2. Your photos will look and feel more like YOU.

Listen, I love outdoor sessions just as much as the next guy. But if you’re looking for something a little different from everyone else, something a little more authentic to your own family, this is a GREAT option for your photos. If you’re a sentimental sap like me, the idea of looking back at photos that took place in your living room or the nursery is enough to make you melt into a puddle of nostalgia. It really doesn’t get more unique or personal.

3. You don’t have to compete with everyone else.

Public spaces are just that: public. Unless we reserve a private venue, there will often be people around. This might mean waiting our turn, dealing with people in the background of your photos, or having less privacy than you might prefer.

Okay, all this sounds great BUT…

“Does this mean I need to deep-clean my house?”

Nope. Nuh uh. No way. When I show up to photograph a family in their home, the first thing I do is find the spaces with the most SUNLIGHT coming through the windows. Those are the spaces we use for photos, which means THOSE are the rooms that need some tidying up. No mopping, no baseboard scrubbing – just tidying. Dirty baseboards won’t show in your photos, and God knows *I’m* not the girl to judge your baseboards.

“But, Allison… What if my house doesn’t get great light?”

This is a GREAT question. If this is a concern you have, I recommend you have a virtual or in-person walk-through with your photographer, to get their advice on how to best handle your session. Some photographers are comfortable bringing in a flash or off-camera lighting to better light the space, while other photographers have different preferences.

I know outdoor sessions are all the rage, and for good reason! They are beautiful! But if you’re looking for something a little different, something a little more personal, consider an in-home session. When you’re ready to chat about yours, fill out this form and I will connect with you!
