I met the Davis family when their oldest, Katherine Taylor, was two, and I’m back for round two now that baby boy has arrived. There’s something about photographing a family more than once; you start to actually know them, and it shows in the photos. This session was full of snuggles, big sister showing off her new job title, and one very unplanned bathroom door entrance that ended up being my favorite shot of the whole session. Life feels full right now. We are learning how to be a family of four, settling into slower days, louder moments, and a whole lot of love. Our oldest is stepping into her role as big sister, and our newborn is still brand new to the world.
This candid lifestyle portrait session captures this season exactly as it unfolds. Nothing feels rushed or forced. It feels real, emotional, and deeply meaningful.
What Brings Us Back in Front of Allison’s Camera
We come back to Allison because she understands kids. She knows how to meet them where they are and give them space to just be themselves.
“Allison is so great with kids. She’s gotten some of the best and most genuine smiles and looks from our daughter, so we knew we wanted her to capture our growing family as well.”
There’s no pressure for our toddler to behave a certain way or perform for the camera. She feels comfortable, and that comfort shows in every photo.
That moment feels exactly like her, and it is exactly how I want to remember her at this age.
Waiting to See Our Kids Together for the First Time
Before the session begins, I feel excited, a little emotional too. I can’t wait to see my kids together on film for the first time.
“I knew I’d cherish these photos forever, so the anticipation of seeing my first baby and new baby together was the best.”
Seeing them side by side feels surreal. One child is still so tiny. The other already shows so much personality. Watching their relationship begin feels incredibly special.
Big Sister Moments You Can’t Plan
Our daughter, Katherine Taylor, brings big energy to the session. She reacts to her baby brother with huge smiles, dramatic expressions, and unprompted kisses.
“She unprompted handed out kisses and truly was the sweetest big sis.”
At one point, she bursts through the bathroom door during her baby brother’s solo photos with a look of pure surprise. It’s unexpected, a little chaotic, and completely perfect.
That moment feels exactly like her, and it’s exactly how I want to remember her at this age.
The Quiet Moments That Stay With Me
Some of my favorite moments happen quietly. Both kids lay together on the bed, wrapped in sweet snuggles.
“Seeing my two kids laying on the bed together was so surreal. Those are some of my favorite photos from the shoot.”
These moments feel heavy with meaning. They remind me how quickly this stage will pass and how important it is to hold onto it while we can.

If I could offer one piece of advice to other parents, it would be simple.
“Just relax. Allison makes it so natural and enjoyable. There is no pressure for the perfect shot.”

How I Hope to Remember This Season
I hope I remember the snuggles, one child in each arm. I hope I remember the unprompted kisses and the quiet moments.
“I hope to remember the slowness of some days where I get to just hold and rock my son to sleep.”
These days feel long at times, but I know they’ll pass quickly.
The Lessons Parenthood Teaches You
Parenthood keeps you in check, in the best way.
“Kids humble you. I’ve also never felt a love and protectiveness like this. I’d go to battle for them.”
That reality lives in these photos. It shows in the way we hold our children and the way they cling to us in return.
Pregnancy, Delivery, and Quiet Strength
Pregnancy and delivery bring reflection. I feel deeply supported by my husband, especially after a semi-scary first delivery. I also feel closer to the Lord during delivery and postpartum.
I feel amazed by how the body is designed to give babies exactly what they need.
Words I Would Share With Other Parents and Myself
To new parents, I would say this:
“You got this. It’s hard, yes. Lean on one another because you are a team. Also try to laugh.“
And to my future self:
“That I did the best I could and to be proud of myself as a woman and working mom. To give myself grace.”
